Iain Ward

World Record Chaser

@thekingofchemo on social media. After being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2020, Iain’s life goal is to break the charity world record for raising the most amount of money ever for running a marathon. Through his remarkable journey and engaging content, Iain has amassed a following of over 2.6 million followers on Instagram and over 4.9 million on TikTok of people who are both inspired by his ability to turn a heartbreaking situation into one of action and encouragement and fans of his tongue-in-cheek humor. His latest feat is joining the Great World Race and 5 of the 6 Abbott World Marathon Majors (Bank of America Boston Marathon, TCS London Marathon, BMW Berlin Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon & TCS New York City Marathon) raising money for the American Cancer Society through corporate sponsorships and donations. When asked about this latest venture, Iain shared:

“My terminal brain cancer diagnosis has given me absolute clarity: I want to use the time I have left to laugh in cancer’s ugly face by raising more money for cancer research than anyone has ever. We’ve raised over $300,000 so far, and in 2024, we want to break the world record of $3,000,000, starting with Great World Race. You don’t even have to donate: The bigger the channel gets, the more sponsorships we get, and the more money goes to charity. But I can’t do this without you, and I need each and every one of you reading this to follow right now. It only takes seconds and it will help raise money for the 1 in 2 people who will get cancer in their lifetime. So do it for your friends, your family, everyone you know who is affected by cancer, and I will put FUN in FUNdraising, the KING in marKetING and the CAN in CANcer and I will show the world that cancer doesn’t define who you are.”

Our Mission

Every cancer. Every life.

As the only organization combating cancer through advocacy, discovery, and patient support, the American Cancer Society has made significant contributions to the fight against cancer over the last 110 years. We advocate for lifesaving policy changes, promote healthy lifestyles to help prevent cancer, and provide information, answers, and support to people in every community who have been touched by cancer. We also research cancer and its causes to find more answers and better treatment.

Yet, there is still work to be done – which is why we are so glad you have joined us tonight! The American Cancer Society continues to work tirelessly to fund research and provide support for all types of cancer. And thanks to your generous support, we work to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
